Bestial Hollows and the Hunger
Hollows are not like other souls. There is a fundamental difference that separates Hollows from Pluses and Shinigami. That difference is evident in the Hollow Hole. Quite simply, Hollows do not have hearts. Hollows are the result of a violent death or an incomplete life, leading the remaining spirit to be chained to the earth. Hollows, except for the pureblood creatures of Hueco Mundo, are not born. They are always made. Over time, if the concerns of the spirit are not relieved, the Chain of Fate binding them to the earth will begin to strain, and eventually it will snap free, pulling out the heart with it. The heart, for spirits, is more than just a vital organ. It is the core of the balancing factor of reiatsu that keeps the yin and yang of the forces of life and death equal in the body. When it is removed, the balance of reiatsu moves overwhelmingly towards death.
At this point, the spirit will most likely disassemble into spirit particles and violently reassemble in a safer location to Hollowify. In the Hollowfication process, the spirit will expel a large amount of gel-like white reiatsu from their mouth, which begins to form into a hollow mask over their face, along with covering their body and crafting it into a hollow form. Once this is complete, lesser Hollows lose their mind from the pain and become mindless beasts. Some, however, retain their individual strength, becoming the strongest of hollows as they ascend the ranks of evolution. When they are consumed into a Gillian, they become the dominant personality, and the only one left as they evolve into Adjuchas and beyond.
Hollows are consumed by an endless hunger for life. Due to the great imbalance in their souls caused by Hollowfication, they seek to consume as much life energy into them in an attempt to balance out their reiatsu. As they do so, their power increases, as more of a balance is reached and their overall reiatsu increases. After a time, when a hollow is ready to remove their mask, they invoke a great amount of life-oriented reiatsu to conjoin with the death in their souls. The result is the flipside of the coin from a Vaizard; a being with a death-favoring balance of reiatsu, as opposed to the Masked Army, who holds within them a life-favoring balance of reiatsu, and the two opposites of life and death, Shinigami and Hollows. Only be achieving this balance can the hunger be quelled.
Arrancar
Upon removing their mask and exponentially increasing their reiatsu, a Hollow seals all of the removed death-oriented spiritual energy into the form of a sword, or Resgarvida. This weapon contains within it the full power of the Arrancar’s broken mask, which, like a Shinigami’s Bankai, must remained sealed until they are able to unleash it, for their own good. With new balance comes order from the chaos, and as such, the Arrancar have a much more organized society than bestial Hollows. There are a number of different kinds of Arrancar, each with their own station in the society. These are: The Espada, Fracción, Números, Privaron Espada, and Exequias. Each serves a simple, specific function, and these rules are adhered to on the pain of obliteration.
The Espada function as the lords and rulers of the Hollow. In days past, the Espada served as the enforcers and commanders of greater forces, sometimes even those coming from other races than Hollows. The empty souls respect, above all else, power. However, when there is no such god to lead them, the default system of rule is that of the Primera Espada. Although in some eras there are squabbles for power, in the time of Lumbremeta, the Primera is undisputed as king. Joining the Espada requires Admin Permission, as well as a successful battle against an Espada Member, most likely the Decima.
Below the Espada are the Números. They are the combat specialists and warriors of the Arrancar. All Arrancar, save for a few select exceptions, serve at least some time as Números. They fulfill the day-to-day duties of defending Los Noches and fighting in her campaigns. They are, in short, foot soldiers and servants. They are numbered from 11-100 by their time of birth. When one becomes an Espada, their number disappears, and all Arrancar after them simply move up a number. The Fracción are Números who are handpicked by the Espada to serve as the personal guard and servants of the Espada. Each Espada may have as many as ten Fracción, or none at all. The Fracción receive special privileges, wielding authority as an extension of the power of their Espada.
The Privaron Espada are those Arrancar who have been removed from the Espada. Due to either a loss of strength, or falling from grace with the lord of Los Noches, and Espada may be removed from power and regulated to the Privaron. They are stripped of their privileges and Fracción. They often retain some power amongst the Números, however, through fear alone. They are assigned a number of 101-120 according to their previously held rank, and are often deployed as assassins, enforcers, and mid-level commanders. They hold a position of shame, first and foremost. Amongst the Hollows, loss of power is the greatest flaw and shame there can be.
The Exequias are the judge, jury, and executioners of the Arrancar. It is their duty to punish those Hollows within Los Noches who break the law. The punishment for almost all offenses is death, or dismemberment, so they must be highly skilled combatants. A captain to whom all members pay undying loyalty leads the Exequias, and is their most powerful warrior. They are secretive and respected, and have the blessing of the Espada to do as they see fit unless it specifically interferes with the plans of an Espada. Ask the Admin about becoming an Exequias member.
Uniforms
The Arrancar of Los Noches all wear the same uniform. Though it is not absolutely required, it is strongly suggested. Variations on the uniform are acceptable, but those who seek to dress themselves differently may find themselves singled out because of it. The standard outfit for the Arrancar of Los Noches is a white hakama, held up by a thick black sash. A pair of black tabi socks is worn, along with a pair of normal sandals. A white haori is worn as well, traditionally with nothing underneath it, regardless of gender. This haori has a standard thin collar, trimmed in black. It snaps in the center of the chest, defined by a black trim. The resgarvida may be carried in any manner the Arrancar desires, and accessories such as gloves, hats, and the like, are allowed. It is common, but not expected, for male Arrancar to display their hollow hole if possible.
Areas of Skill
There are four areas of skill where Hollows fight, each being unique and with it’s own benefits.
Obrero – Also known as Hand to Hand Combat, Obrero is a measure of the ability of the Hollow to fight with their hands, feet, tails, and any other bodily appendage they possess. Obrero is considered by some to be an emergency specialty amongst Arrancar, for those who have lost hold of their Resgarvida. However, amongst Gillian and Adjuchas Class Hollows, it is very popular.
Corte – Also known as Blade Combat, Corte is the ability of a Hollow to fight with edged or bladed weapons. Although this applies primarily to Arrancar and their Resgarvida, it also applies to Hollows of a lesser form who possess bladed appendages that resemble swords in their function. This is the primary way that Arrancar fight, and is comparable to the sword styles of Shinigami.
Velocidad – Also known as Speed or Disturbance, this measures the speed and reflexes at which a Hollow moves. This also measures the level of a Hollow’s Sonido. This is more than just speed, however, because many high level hollows bend space and time slightly as they move, via a process similar to minature Garganta. This process becomes second nature for high level Hollows, as easy as breathing. This accounts for the nigh instant speed of some Arrancar.
Ánimo – Also known as Spirit, this measures the ability of a Hollow to control and manipulate their Reiatsu. Abilities like Cero and Bala fall under this. Like the Kido of a Shinigami, this is considered an art more based in finesse and concentration, and takes away somewhat from the pure combat ability of a Hollow. This doesn’t necessarily measure the volume of a Hollow’s Reiatsu, but rather measures how well they can use it through the form of a Hollow’s spiritual abilities.
The Hollow Trait
The Hollow Trait is a special ability, unique to each specific hollow. This ability stays with them all the way through their evolution, and is the essence of their reiatsu; it is their defining ability. It is commonly an improvement on one area of their skills or powers, such as a unique form of Cero, or the ability to split the soul into smaller creatures, or to create a sonic keening that disables spiritual creatures. The possibilities for the Hollow Trait are endless, but the ability is considered to be somewhat analogous to the Shinigami’s zanpaktou, and this ability is usually mirrored in the powers gained by Resurrección as an Arrancar.
